Impacted Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom_Teeth1.jpg

Wisdom teeth are the final set of molars that erupt between the ages of 17-22. When wisdom teeth do not emerge, this means that they are impacted. Impacted wisdom teeth may be embedded underneath the gum or are partially-erupting but can’t move any further due to the obstruction of surrounding teeth. Impacted wisdom teeth do not always show symptoms, but they can increase a patient’s risk of developing an infection. If your wisdom teeth are problematic, Dr. Nick Mobilia of Elite Dental Arts may suggest extraction.

Impacted wisdom teeth may show symptoms of jaw pain, swelling around the gums or the jaw, bleeding gums, bad breath, or an unpleasant taste in the mouth. Impacted wisdom teeth can cause damage to other teeth because if they are crooked, they can cause a misaligned bite or tooth pain. If you haven’t had a routine dental visit, you may be oblivious to the status of your wisdom teeth. Schedule a consultation with Dr. Nick Mobilia so that he can keep a close eye on your wisdom teeth and determine the best course of action.
