How Do Dental Bridges Work?

A bridge may be recommended if you are missing one or more teeth. Gaps left by missing teeth eventually cause the remaining teeth to rotate or shift into the empty spaces, resulting in a bad bite. Bridges span the space where the teeth are missing and are cemented to the natural teeth or implants surrounding the empty space. Our doctors at Elite Dental Arts will fit you with a temporary bridge while we wait for the lab to craft your permanent one. This will protect the abutments and the exposed gum areas and look more appealing than having a missing tooth.

A bridge is made up of two or more crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap – these two or more anchoring teeth are called abutment teeth – and a false tooth in between. These false teeth are called pontics and can be made from gold, alloys, porcelain, or a combination of these materials to ensure they are strong and durable.  Dental bridges are supported by natural teeth or implants.

If you have missing teeth and are considering dental bridges, schedule a consultation with our doctors to discuss your options. Wisdom Tooth Extraction

sdom teeth extractions are a fairly common procedure. Wisdom tooth extraction is a surgical procedure to remove one or more wisdom teeth – the four permanent adult teeth located at the back corners of your mouth on the top and bottom. If a wisdom tooth doesn’t have room to grow (impacted tooth), this will result in pain, infection, or other dental problems and you will likely need to have it pulled. Depending on their preference, doctors at Elite Dental Arts will administer one of three types of anesthesia, depending on the expected complexity of the wisdom tooth extraction and your comfort level.
The gum tissue around the wisdom tooth is cut open to reveal the tooth. The tooth is loosened by gripping it tightly and wiggling it back and forth until it can be lifted out of the gums. Sometimes a tooth may be impacted so tightly that it cannot be simply lifted out of the gums. In cases like this the tooth will be broken up into pieces first before being removed. Depending on the incision and extraction site, sutures may be needed to close the area. Soluble sutures are the best option, which will dissolve on their own.
If you haven’t had your wisdom teeth removed and it is beginning to cause discomfort, schedule a consultation with our doctors to discuss your options. Advantages of Invisalign over Traditional Braces

If you are searching to straighten your teeth, schedule a consultation with our doctors to discuss your options. To learn more about Invisalign and other services provided at our office, visit www.elitedentalarts.com for more information. To schedule an appointment with one of our doctors at Elite Dental Arts in New York, NY, call 212-681-0939.
At Elite Dental Arts, Invisalign is recommended for orthodontic situations with mild to moderate spacing or crowding. Invisalign takes a modern approach to straightening teeth, using a custom made series of aligners created for you and only you. These aligner trays are made of smooth, comfortable and virtually invisible plastic that you wear over your teeth. With Invisalign, metal mouth is a thing of the past. There are no metal brackets to attach and no wires to tighten. You just pop in a new set of aligners approximately every two weeks, until your treatment is complete.

With traditional braces, brushing and flossing can take up to 30 minutes when done properly. With Invisalign, the aligner trays are removable. That means you can continue doing all the things you normally would, from brushing and flossing, to eating whatever you like. Although both products straighten your teeth and effectively treat a wide variety of cases, Invisalign allows you to enjoy your teeth-straightening process because you don’t have sharp metal to irritate your cheeks and gums.

Causes for TMJ Disorder

Temporomandibular joint and muscle disorders (TMJ disorders) are problems that affect the chewing muscles and joints that connect your lower jaw to your skull. There are two matching temporomandibular joints on each side of your head and they are located in front of your ears. For many people with TMJ disorders, the cause is unknown. At Elite Dental Arts in New York, NY, Dr Nick Mobilia can help you prevent TMJ from getting worse or help find a solution if you already suffer from symptoms.

Although the ideal cause is unknown, poor posture can be an important factor in TMJ symptoms, for example, holding the head forward while looking at a computer all day strains the muscles of the face and neck. Other causes given for this condition include: a bad bite associated with orthodontic braces and stress. For some people, the stress associated with this disorder may be caused by the pain, as opposed to being the cause of the problem. Other possible causes of TMJ-related symptoms include arthritis, fractures, dislocations, and structural problems present since birth.

If you awaken with joint pain in your jaw, schedule a consultation with our doctors to discuss your options. To learn about TMJ symptoms and treatment visit the TMD treatment page at www.elitedentalarts.com for more information. To schedule an appointment with one of our doctors at Elite Dental Arts in New York, NY, call 212-681-0939.
