When Tooth Extraction is Necessary

Beautiful_Lower_half_of_Face.png

If a tooth has been broken or damaged by decay, Dr. Nick Mobilia, DDS will try to fix it with a filling, crown, or other dental treatment. However, when there is too much damage for the tooth to be repaired, the tooth may need to be surgically extracted from its socket in the bone. By taking an x-ray and examining your tooth, Dr. Mobilia can usually determine whether or not the extraction will be simple or surgical.

You’re probably most familiar with wisdom teeth extractions, but other reasons for tooth extraction include:

  • When some people have extra teeth that block other teeth from coming in.

  • Sometimes baby teeth don’t fall out in time to allow permanent teeth to come in.

  • People getting braces may need teeth extracted to create room for teeth that are being moved into place.

  • Some teeth may need to be extracted if they have the potential of becoming infected.

If you suspect that you need a tooth extracted for one of these reasons, please give us a call. Benefits of Porcelain Veneers

If you’re considering a surface makeover of your smile, Elite Dental Arts is the place to do it.  At our comprehensive, restorative and cosmetic practice, we offer a number of services and technologies that can completely customize your smile, tooth by tooth. One method of accomplishing this is the use of porcelain veneers.

Porcelain veneers are cosmetic restoratives that make it possible to recreate the surface and outer structure of a tooth.  As a thin, semi-translucent porcelain shell is crafted for each individual tooth and securely bonded to its surface, discoloration, chips, fractures, gaps and minor bite issues are corrected. Porcelain veneers make it possible to totally recreate the most visible portions of your smile as you envision. They are a superior option in cosmetic dentistry, but there are a few factors to consider when choosing veneers:

  • Veneers often require slight modification to the outer structure of an existing tooth, but this amounts to less than one millimeter of enamel shaping.

  • Veneers do not stain and they do not require any dietary restrictions, however, excessive force and destructive habits can cause them to chip or become damaged.

  • Veneers do require some lab time for fabrication, typically several weeks. Once they are crafted, they can then be permanently bonded to the teeth.

  • The longevity of veneers varies from patient to patient. They may need to be re-bonded to the tooth after a few years or they can last for decades.

To determine whether or not porcelain veneers are the right cosmetic dentistry solution for you, consider your smile care habits, desired results and arrange an appointment here with Dr. Nick Mobilia, DDS in our New York, NY dental practice, by calling our office at (212) 681-0939.

Inlays and Onlays

Weakened teeth not only promote decay and dysfunction, but they do not look so great. They can darken a smile and make it appear unhealthy. Fortunately, Dr. Nick Mobilia of Elite Dental Arts here in New York, NY offers inlays and onlays. These restoration options not only strengthen and protect weak teeth, but they restore smiles, too!

An inlay is a restoration for the chewing surface of your teeth and an onlay is a restoration for the chewing surface plus one or more of the tooth’s cusps. Inlays and onlays are the perfect options for when there is too much decay or damage done to a tooth that a filling cannot hold it, but not enough damage to where a full dental crown is needed. They are a happy medium. We are able to make completely custom inlays and onlays so that they match the rest of your tooth! No one will be able to tell that there is a restoration there; they will just see a healthy, gleaming smile!

Dental Implants for a Lifetime Replacement

While most dental procedures are really no big deal, when you do go through a procedure, say to replace a tooth, you want to make sure it will last a long time. This is one of the reasons why Dr. Nick Mobilia, DDS of Elite Dental Arts here in New York, NY offers dental implants to our patients. Dental implants are the only tooth replacement option that has the ability to last for a lifetime!

Dental implants are the most durable and stable tooth replacement option out there. The implant is inserted into the jawbone just like how a normal tooth’s root is. An implant consists of a titanium implant post, an abutment to serve as the base for the new tooth, and a dental crown to act as the part of the tooth you see. We are able to make custom dental crowns that look just like the rest of your teeth. This is wonderful for those whose missing tooth affects their smile.

To insert a dental implant, Dr. Mobilia will make an incision in the gums and place the titanium post into the bone socket. It will take three to six months for the implant to heal, so during this time, the patient will wear a temporary crown to protect the area. After the healing is complete, an abutment is placed on the implant and a custom crown is permanently cemented into place. With a good oral hygiene routine and regular visit to your dentist, an implant should be able to stay in good health for a lifetime.

Our teeth will ideally stay with us for our whole lives, but if they do not, you want the next best thing. To schedule a dental implant consultation with Dr. Nick Mobilia, DDS in our New York, NY dental practice, Elite Dental Arts, call our office at (212) 681-0939 or visit our website, www.elitedentalarts.com.
