Oral Surgery Procedures

Wisdom_Teeth.jpg

Oral surgery can be nerve-wracking for a patient who’s never undergone a surgical procedure, but Dr. Nick Mobilia of Elite Dental Arts is here to make patients comfortable every step of the way. Some of the oral surgery procedures that Dr. Mobilia provides are wisdom teeth removal, tooth extractions, and dental implants. If you desire a smile makeover, or you are experiencing tooth pain that may require removal, we can assist.

Not all patients require wisdom teeth extraction, but if they are impacted and/or causing the patient pain, extraction is usually best. If you have missing teeth, dental implants are an alternative option to bridges and dentures. Candidates for dental implants need to have an adequate bone level and density, must not be prone to infection and must be dedicated to oral hygiene. To discuss oral surgery procedures with Dr. Nick Mobilia, schedule a consultation today.

TMJ/TMD – Temporomandibular Joint Disorder

TMJ_D.jpgTo put it simply, the temporomandibular joint is the jaw joint. Each of us has two temporomandibular joints located on each side of the head, which work together as a pair. These joints are what allow us to eat, chew, and speak properly, but sometimes, it can cause discomfort. Because these joints are overworked on a daily basis, pain can develop, and may even restrict movement. If you experience any of the following symptoms, speak with Dr. Nick Mobilia of Elite Dental Arts about TMJ disorder.

If you experience an ache in the jaw that is affecting the way you eat or speak, this may be due to a temporomandibular joint disorder. Grinding the teeth and constant gum chewing may make the pain worse. If you develop frequent headaches, a locked jaw, or notice a clicking or popping sound when you open and close your mouth, seek a diagnosis of TMJ. Once Dr. Nick Mobilia has evaluated your symptoms, he can suggest a solution that is right for you.

If you have questions or concerns about TMJ/TMD treatment, please give us a call. To learn about the services we provide at our practice, visit www.elitedentalarts.com for more information. Benefits of ZOOM Whitening

whitening.jpg

ZOOM whitening is an in-office procedure that Dr. Nick Mobilia of Elite Dental Arts offers to patients to enhance the appearance of one’s smile. Tooth discoloration occurs from sipping wine, coffee, and/or smoking. Fortunately, the ZOOM in-office tooth whitening procedure removes these stains without damaging enamel and tooth structure. Whether you want to touch up your smile or transform it completely, Dr. Mobilia can help.

Before deciding if ZOOM whitening is right for you, Dr. Mobilia will evaluate your mouth as well as your oral and lifestyle habits. Once you decide that ZOOM is right for you, the procedure will take less than one hour. During the procedure, your eyes, lips, and gums are completely covered and protected throughout the entire procedure. The procedure consists of three 15-minute sessions for a total treatment time of 45 minutes. Immediately afterward, a sensitivity-reducing fluoride paste-gel is applied to the teeth.

If you have questions or concerns about teeth whitening, please give us a call. To learn about the services we provide at our practice, visit www.elitedentalarts.com for more information. “I can’t say enough about my dentist. To me, he is like a dental god who has a natural gift of healing. I met Dr. Nick Mobilia approximately 11 years ago. I was having a problem with a crown that another dentist had placed. Dr. Mobilia, with his gentle touch, caring ways and trusted hands corrected a bad situation. From that day on I have never looked anywhere else for my dental needs. I have had a lot of problems with my teeth, gums, and jaw due to hereditary reasons. Before Dr. Mobilia, I was a dental mess. Now not only do I have a movie star smile, I no longer suffer from pain and embarrassment.

Dr. Mobilia is a phenomenal dentist that gives painless injections. Dr. M has performed gum surgeries, extractions, placed and restored implants, Invisalign, Botox, and Restylane injections. I feel like a new person with all my thanks to Dr. M and his outstanding dentistry. He is the only dentist for me and my family. He is a wonderful, kind, caring and friendly person. Even my children love to go to the dentist because he has a great personality and they feel they have a friend. If you are anything like me, you’ll appreciate his meticulously clean state of the office and friendly dental team. Just make an appointment and see for yourself. Then you can write back and thank me for my referral.” –Elaine B.

Flossing with Traditional Braces

As Dr. Nick Mobilia, DDS at Elite Dental Arts will tell you, flossing can be difficult when you have traditional metal braces, but it’s more important than ever to keep the gaps in your teeth clean when you have a mouth full of metal. Many folks who have braces don’t know how to floss with them or think that they can’t floss at all if they have braces and this is not true. Therefore, here are some tips for flossing effectively and keeping those brackets and wires clean.

  • Use waxed floss, because unwaxed floss is more likely to get caught and shred in your braces.

  • Use about 18 inches of floss and thread it carefully.

  • Take the floss and gently thread it under the main wire of the braces before passing it between two teeth. Then remove the floss and re-thread it under the main wire to pass between the next pair of teeth.

  • Be sure not to snap the floss. Simply move the floss up and down carefully against the side of each tooth.

Avoiding Staining to Keep a White Smile

Look your best this spring by keeping those pearly whites bright! At Elite Dental Arts in New York, NY, Dr. Nick Mobilia, DDS offers professional whitening. Take some tips for keeping your smile white after your whitening procedure!

The most important part of keeping a white smile is keeping it clean. A great at-home oral hygiene routine is important to keep away stain-causing debris, as well as routine professional cleanings. Sticky plaque that develops on our teeth just hours after brushing them can hold stain-causers close to teeth. Brush two to three times per day and floss once per day to keep away plaque and debris!

After drinking dark liquids or eating dark foods, like cola and soy sauce, make sure to rinse your mouth out. Brushing too soon after eating or drinking anything but water could harm your enamel, but rinsing with water will not. After thirty minutes, it is then safe to brush. In addition to rinsing afterward, drink your dark liquids through a straw to minimize contact. Avoiding tobacco use will also help keep stains away.

Fantastic Flossing

Flossing is vital to protect the in-between surfaces of your teeth and to ensure a bright smile. Dr. Nick Mobilia DDS of Elite Dental Arts in New York, NY wants to make sure everyone knows how to protect their teeth. Take some of our tips for flossing!

To begin, take about eighteen inches of floss and wrap the two ends around your middle fingers for a tight grip. Leave about two inches in between your hands to floss with. You should use a new section of floss for each time you go in between teeth, so rotate the floss as you go. Make sure to get in between all of your teeth; do not leave any out. Your molars are especially important, as they do the most chewing.

Slide the floss between two teeth and rub the floss back and forth until you reach your gums. Do not hit your gums with the floss hard, as this could injure your gums. When you reach your gums, make sure you continue rubbing the floss down the tooth and under the gumline. Scrub both sides of the space and then move on to a new space.

Make sure to floss every day for healthy teeth and gums. To schedule your routine cleaning with Dr. Nick Mobilia of Elite Dental Arts, call our New York, NY office at (212) 681-0939 or visit our website, www.elitedentalarts.com.

When Tooth Extraction is Necessary

Beautiful_Lower_half_of_Face.png

If a tooth has been broken or damaged by decay, Dr. Nick Mobilia, DDS will try to fix it with a filling, crown, or other dental treatment. However, when there is too much damage for the tooth to be repaired, the tooth may need to be surgically extracted from its socket in the bone. By taking an x-ray and examining your tooth, Dr. Mobilia can usually determine whether or not the extraction will be simple or surgical.

You’re probably most familiar with wisdom teeth extractions, but other reasons for tooth extraction include:

  • When some people have extra teeth that block other teeth from coming in.

  • Sometimes baby teeth don’t fall out in time to allow permanent teeth to come in.

  • People getting braces may need teeth extracted to create room for teeth that are being moved into place.

  • Some teeth may need to be extracted if they have the potential of becoming infected.

If you suspect that you need a tooth extracted for one of these reasons, please give us a call. Inlays and Onlays

Weakened teeth not only promote decay and dysfunction, but they do not look so great. They can darken a smile and make it appear unhealthy. Fortunately, Dr. Nick Mobilia of Elite Dental Arts here in New York, NY offers inlays and onlays. These restoration options not only strengthen and protect weak teeth, but they restore smiles, too!

An inlay is a restoration for the chewing surface of your teeth and an onlay is a restoration for the chewing surface plus one or more of the tooth’s cusps. Inlays and onlays are the perfect options for when there is too much decay or damage done to a tooth that a filling cannot hold it, but not enough damage to where a full dental crown is needed. They are a happy medium. We are able to make completely custom inlays and onlays so that they match the rest of your tooth! No one will be able to tell that there is a restoration there; they will just see a healthy, gleaming smile!

Dental Implants for a Lifetime Replacement

While most dental procedures are really no big deal, when you do go through a procedure, say to replace a tooth, you want to make sure it will last a long time. This is one of the reasons why Dr. Nick Mobilia, DDS of Elite Dental Arts here in New York, NY offers dental implants to our patients. Dental implants are the only tooth replacement option that has the ability to last for a lifetime!

Dental implants are the most durable and stable tooth replacement option out there. The implant is inserted into the jawbone just like how a normal tooth’s root is. An implant consists of a titanium implant post, an abutment to serve as the base for the new tooth, and a dental crown to act as the part of the tooth you see. We are able to make custom dental crowns that look just like the rest of your teeth. This is wonderful for those whose missing tooth affects their smile.

To insert a dental implant, Dr. Mobilia will make an incision in the gums and place the titanium post into the bone socket. It will take three to six months for the implant to heal, so during this time, the patient will wear a temporary crown to protect the area. After the healing is complete, an abutment is placed on the implant and a custom crown is permanently cemented into place. With a good oral hygiene routine and regular visit to your dentist, an implant should be able to stay in good health for a lifetime.

Our teeth will ideally stay with us for our whole lives, but if they do not, you want the next best thing. To schedule a dental implant consultation with Dr. Nick Mobilia, DDS in our New York, NY dental practice, Elite Dental Arts, call our office at (212) 681-0939 or visit our website, www.elitedentalarts.com.
