TMJ/TMD Soft Food Diet

TMJ_D.jpg

The temporomandibular joint is the joint that connects our jaw to our skull. When the joint is injured or damaged, it can lead to pain in this area, known as a temporomandibular joint disorder. Though there is no known cause for TMJ, it’s said to be caused by misalignment of the teeth, constant gum chewing, and teeth grinding. Dr. Nick Mobilia of Elite Dental Arts can develop a treatment plan to alleviate this condition, but you can start doing so by incorporating softer foods into your diet.

Soft food gives your jaw and temporomandibular joints the opportunity to rest and heal. Some excellent (and healthy) foods to eat include cooked vegetables and fruits, cottage cheese, mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs, smoothies, soup, and yogurt. If you must eat food that requires a heavy amount of chewing, we recommended chopping it up into small pieces. If you have a sweet tooth, soft cakes, cobblers, and cheesecake are good things to choose from.
